What methods of transport does Qantas Airways provide for my pet?
- Checked as baggage in pressurized and temperature controlled area of your aircraft.
- Shipped as cargo in pressurized and temperature controlled area.
With the exception of service dogs, pets cannot be carried in the passenger cabin of the aircraft. On Australian domestic flights from eligible airports, pets which fit into a small or medium sized pet pack can be taken as part of your free baggage allowance, subject to exceptions.
What are the kennel requirements?
Small kennel (equivalent to one piece of luggage)
- Made of plastic material with absorbent mat and suitable for cats and small dogs up to small terrier size.
- Maximum size: 22in/56cm x 12in/30cm x 15cm/38cm (l x w x h)
- Maximum weight (including animal): 33lb/15 kg
Medium (equivalent to two pieces of luggage)
- Made of polypropylene material with absorbent mat and suitable for dogs up to cocker spaniel size.
- Maximum size: 26in/66cm x 16in/40cm x 20in/52cm (l x w x h)
- Maximum weight (including animal): 44lb/20 kg
Large
- Wire mesh - minimum of 8 standard wire gauge
- Escape proof hinges and latches
- Bottom covered with a leak proof galvanized tray with corners and edges soldered and rolled up to 3.5in/9cm
- Tray bottom to be covered with absorbent material to avoid leakage
- Maximum height: 33in/84cm
An animal and/or container will not be accepted when:
- The container is not sufficiently sturdy or is in disrepair and the animal is likely to escape
- The container or animal is unclean
- The animal appears diseased
- The animal is unduly savage
- The container could cause injury or suffering to the animal
- The container fails to meet the RSPCA regulations that the animal must be able to:
- Stand up straight
- Lie down without being cramped
- Turn around within the crate/kennel
