Carry-On Allowance: 1 Bag + 1 Personal Item

Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 45 linear in/114 cm (length + width + height)
  • Maximum Combined Weight of Carry-on and Personal Item for Jetstar (JQ) and Jetstar Asia (3K/VF) : 22 lb/10 kg
  • Maximum Combined Weight of Carry-on and Personal Item for Jetstar Pacific (BL): 15 lb/7 kg

If you are traveling with an infant, you may also carry on infant food for consumption inflight. If a seat has been booked for an infant, an approved infant car seat is permitted.

Each Passenger traveling on a StarClass fare is permitted one additional carry-on item provided that only one item may be a suit pack or garment bag, provided that each carry-on item does not exceed 22 lb/10 kg, with a total combined cabin baggage weight of 44 lb/20 kg.

  • For Jetstar (JQ) and Jetstar Asia (3K/VF), dimensions of main items must not exceed 56cm (width) 36cm (height) 23cm (depth) for an overnight bag, laptop bag or briefcase.
  • For Jetstar Pacific (BL), dimensions of main items must not exceed 48cm (width) 34cm (height) 23cm (depth) for an overnight bag or briefcase.
  • For a suit pack or garment bag, dimensions must not exceed 11cm (height), 60cm (width) and 114cm (length) for a suit pack or garment bag (measured unfolded).
  • Small item may be a small handbag, pocket book or purse, coat, umbrella, or for international flights, duty free goods (where permitted).
  • Each piece must be able to fit under the seat in front of you or fit in an enclosed storage compartment in the cabin of the aircraft.
  • If any piece of Baggage does not comply with any of these conditions, it must be checked in to the aircraft hold or may not be carried on your flight.

Checked Baggage Allowance

  • JetSaver Light fare: no free baggage allowance (see below for baggage fee information)
  • JetSaver and JetFlex: 44 lb/20 kg
  • StarClass: 66 lb/30 kg

JetSaver Light Baggage Fees

JetSaver Light fares do not include a Checked Baggage Allowance. The following fees apply if you are holding a JetSaver Light fare and your bags need to be checked in, up to a weight of 44 lb/20 kg per passenger.

Domestic Australia and New Zealand flights:

  • Pre-paid via call centre or website: AUD/NZD$40 each way
  • Paid at the airport: AUD/NZD$80 each way

Domestic Vietnam flights:

  • Pre-paid via call centre or website: USD$6 / VND$100,000 each way
  • Paid at the airport: USD$12 / VND$200,000 each way

Intra Asia flights:

  • Pre-paid via call centre or website: SGD$30 / THB$700 / TWD$700 / MYR$70 / USD$20 / HKD$80 each way
  • Paid at the airport: SGD$60 / THB$1,400 / TWD$1,400 / MYR$140 / USD$40 / HKD$160 each way

International flights to/from Australia:

  • Pre-paid via call centre or website: AUD$80 / NZD$80 / THB$2,000 / SGD$80 / MYR$240 / USD$80 / JPY$8,000 each way
  • Paid at the airport: AUD$160 / NZD$160 / THB$4,000 / SGD$160 / MYR$480 / USD$160 / JPY$16,000 each way

Excess Baggage

For every kilogram of checked baggage above the allowance specified, you will be charged a fee per kg. Please refer to the table below for the schedule of excess baggage fees:

Domestic Flights

  • Australia flights: AUD$10
  • New Zealand flights: NZD$10
  • Vietman flights: USD$1.50 / VND$20,000

*If you have purchased a connecting fare comprising one Domestic flight and one International flight, you will be charged the international excess baggage rate applicable at your point of departure, per kilo for every kg of baggage carried between 20 and 40 kg for your whole journey. See below for the international excess baggage rates.

If you are traveling with an infant, the infant's baby accessories such as a pram and portable cot will be checked in free of charge.

JetSaver Light passengers are not entitled to check in any baggage for carriage in the aircraft hold. Subject to space availability, passengers traveling on JetSaver Light fares may be allowed to check in up to 20 kg of baggage for an additional charge. Passengers wishing to check in baggage can contact the Jetstar reservations centre up to 24 hours before departure to change to a JetSaver Fare. Alternatively, you may change at the airport for a fee.

  • Departing from Australia: AUD$20
  • Departing fron New Zealand: NZD$20
  • Departing from Singapore: SGD$20
  • Departing from Japan: JPY$1,500
  • Departing from Cambodia: USD$15
  • Departing from Indonesia: USD$15
  • Departing from Myanmar: USD$15
  • Departing from Philippines: USD$15
  • Departing from United States: USD$15
  • Departing from Vietnam: USD$15
  • Departing from Thailand: THB$600
  • Departing from Taiwan: TWD$600
  • Departing from Malaysia: MYR$50
  • Departing from Hong Kong: HKD$120

All amounts will be charged in the local currency of the applicable airport.

Sports Equipment and other Bulky Items

Some checked items, such as surfboards and bicycles will be charged a fixed handling fee because of size, fragility, or other handling requirements while others may be checked in lieu of one of your checked bags.
